My 2002 Convertible was ok for the first 1200 miles. Then, the "service active
handling" message came on. Took it to the dealer 4 times. They called Technical Assistance who told them that a sealer in the steering wheel has to wear down before the message will disappear. Is this true? Is there anything that can be done? Supposedly, the active handling still works but the error message won't disappear until the car has 3000 miles on it. Considering that it will be going into storage for the winter very soon, I would like some advice if anyone else has had this problem.
Numbers,
Address your issue to c5-tech or c4/c5specialist, I had a problem with the active handling system on my 2002 z06 and they both chimed in with correct info, not sure what your current service folks are telling you is correct.
Check for TCS fault codes on the DIC.You may have a 1287 or 1288 code which often indicates a faulty steering position sensor. This requires removing the steering column to replace...Somewhat common on 2001-02 with low mileage. The EBTCM has to learn the steering sensor, but you shouldnt get repeated messages after the sensor is learned...
I have a "01 coupe and i had the problem from day one. When i got the car home the message came up and I never had the time to take it to the dealer but after a little while(500 miles or so) it stopped and hasn't done it since. I wouldn't sweat it.
