Does the center peice of the steering wheel pop off, or is that soley the airbag mechanism, reason being, I went to hit my horn while some dumba$$ cut me off, and no horn, but if I bang on the center of the wheel where normally the horn is activated by pushing, I sometimes get a Horn sound, so My question is , is there a sending unit of some sort in there that can be acessed by removing the center portion of the steering wheel somewhat like the older vehicles.
Based on what others have posted regarding horn replacement, it appears that the center portion of the steering wheel is an integrated module containing the airbag and the horn switches, i.e. it is not serviceable. Others have had to replace the entire module ($$$).
I'm sure someone that has delt with this will chime in.

I just fixed mine in August. First of all, everyone tells you it can't be fixed without replacing the entire airbag module of which the horn wire is an integral part. That's bull. I did mine with a little bit of brain surgery and determination. First I'll explain the problem. There is a red wire in there that is the horn wire. When you turn the steering wheel the wire moves around. On some cars (mine and maybe yours) the wire becomes abraded when it rubs against the threads of the steering wheel column shaft where the big nut is attached. This causes a short and explains why sometimes it works and not others. If you turn your wheel full right or left you may find a spot where it works. Now, here's what to do. Get a T30 torx bit and remove the airbag/horn assembly from the steering wheel. You will need to get behind the stg wheel to remove the 2 internal screws that hold the airbag onto the wheel. It's tricky. I ended up using a small mirror and inserting the bit first by hand so I could feel it engage, then attach the wrench to complete the removal. You need to pull a fuse under the pass side to disable the airbag system first. When you see the airbag symbol light up on your dash you know it is disabled and you can continue to work. I had to take off part of the steering column shroud pieces to get good tool access. When you see the wire, if it is bare showing the copper just put some electrical tape over it and you are done. Test your horn before reassembling everything. Good luck!
