The oil temp sensor is located just above the oil filter. It is the small brass colored item in the white block in the photo below. You can see the top of the blue oil filter in the bottom right of the photo. Sorry I don't have a photo of a stock setup handy but the stock is very close, only difference is the block is smaller and the sensor sticks out more to the left and forward, but you get the idea where it is located. It is the only thing right there with wires going to it. The wires can get very close to the exhaust down there.

Cam99,

I am not sure if the part number is different for a 99, but for an 01 it is: 15326388. The curious thing about this is that the sensor part number says it is a "Coolant Temperature Sensor"! I have a feeling that the part is used elsewhere as well so they just used the same type of sensor to measure two different fluid temps - so no harm there.

Before you go buying one, I would recommend doing some diagnostics! I am only suggesting this because I had the SAME code, replaced the sensor, and STILL have the error occurring! So I'm $35.00 in the hole and still no luck. As soon as I put the car up for the winter I will be giong over it and finding the source of the problem.

IF you want, i have my used one sitting here that I'll be more than happy to send to you for free...My sensor has about 32,000 miles on it so it is pretty "new" still and it wasn't the problem in the first place (obviously!)

Good Luck - if you find your problem, please let me know where it was. You can be assured that as soon as I find mine, it'll be posted on here for those having this issue.

EDIT: You can always call the dealership to get the correct part number w/o having to order anything. I've done that numerous times. OR maybe go to advance auto, tell them you need the engine coolant temp sensor (it is probably the same - for less).

- Jeff
