I'm having a problem with my headlights not going all the way up or down. Sometimes I have to try to get them to move many times and still they won't lock in place. I hear the motors working but they just seem to stick in certain spots. Hard driving especially at night!!
Any suggestions??

Headlight Woes
It sounds like the "plastic" gear in the motor is striped out. This happened to me when the local dealer had adjusted the headlight so far "up" that the pop up got hung up in the opening, and striped one of my gears. The motor, I'm told only uses 70% of the gear. So if you can get it to position itself into an undamaged section it will work fine. I did this with no disassembly over 2 years ago, and it hasn't given me any problem since. The aftermarket makes the proper repair "kit" that includes a "brass" gear instead of the OEM "plastic" one. Good luck, Ed

Yes, but since more than half of the gear is used and the only way to reposition it is to crack the motor seal open, you're just better off getting the bras gear kit with the bracket that keeps the new epoxy seal from breaking open after the repair. Most of the work is getting the motor out so why do it more than once?

I didn't disassemble anything. It probably isn't a "correct" repair, but I just by hand ratcheted the assembly in BJ's parking lot and it has worked fine since. If it had happened again I would have done the brass gear kit. But it hasn't given me the need to yet. This was maybe 2 years ago.
