What's worse as far as how a front tire responds in a tight turn......having a tire that's a little too narrow for the rim, or a tire that's a little too wide for the rim?

I would think that the "narrow" one would be the worst, since it would tend to roll over onto the sidewall more than the overly wide tire would.

Am I right or wrong here?

Karl, you are indeed a physics Junky! I agree with your conclusion.

Everything that I'm familiar with tells me that a wider tire will "roll over" more if the tire pressures are equal.

Interesting. One yay vote, and one nay vote.

The reason I ask is I just got done having a 255/35 18 tire put on an 18x9.5 wheel, which is the smallest recommended size for the wheel, and it is obviously smaller than what the wheel can take.

The tire manufacture doesn't offer a 265/35 tire but does offer a 275 (which is at the max recommended size for the wheel).

Since I can't get a 265 for the wheel (in this brand), I was wondering if I should have gone with the 275 and which would have been the worst handling of the two in cornering ability....the 255 or the 275?

Yeah, I know, I ask the dumbest questions.
