I posted this in the Z06 area and haven't had many responses--I know this has been asked before, but is it considered normal on a Z06 to have some valve noise? I can sit in the car and @ idle I can hear a tapping noise and I can also hear it @ higher rpm's ,like a lifter/tappet sound. This car makes different sounds that my 2000 coupe and I'm just not sure whats normal for a Z ! also when I let the clutch out and leave it in neutral the rattling is loud and @ other times its not to bad. any input is appreciated.
these noises are driving me
I have also heard similar noise while my car is in "p" and idling. Seems most obvious when the engine is cold. It's just a faint tapping noise and it was louder from the oil pan.
If it is a "tap" and not a "knock" it probably is a lifter..if adjusting dosent do it it may be a weak lifter not pumping up all the way..leaking past. Would need replaced. Rod sounds like a "rap rap rat rap" hammering and gets loader with neutral rev-up. Mains show lower oil pressure and a deep sound more at idle.
Get a stethescope to narrow it down (cheap ones available at autoparts store). It may be a injector rattling due to a weak spring. Sounds like a lifter and sends some on a wild goose chase.
