While I have the vette down installing a H/C package thought I'd install a heat shield. I noticed the shield goes outside the tunnel cover in between the exhaust pipes and the tunnel cover. At $325 does the shield work very well and will it last exposed to the nasty elements?

I'm sorry that I can't answer your question directly, but if I were you I'd spend the $$ (probably less) for a ceramic coated tunnel plate from elite engineering. They are a forum sponsor and have great prices on great products. The tunnel plate will noticably stiffen the car. The coating should help with heat issues. I did a tunnel plate and inside insulation kit from another forum member and am very happy with the results. The insulation is from www.exoticvette.com.
I just finished looking over the Elite shield and it looks pretty good - better than the Kool version. I'll do a little more homework and then make a decision. Thanks for the help.

Let me tell you a little story. A few months ago I had forum member UKragtop come and visit from England. He has the exact same car as I do- Z51 vert, same miles, same wear on the same tires. I drove him a few hundred miles R/T to see Niagara Falls. The entire time he kept saying that my car felt "more stiff" or "sportier" than his. He was insistent that something was different. It wasn't until the end of the trip that I remembered the tunnel plate. I explained to him that I had put it on during a winter storage. During that 5 months I drive a lifted 3/4 ton Suburban. I said that if the Vette had 4 steel tires , it would still feel great after wallowing in that barge. In other words, the timeframe was too long for me to notice the difference in the tunnel plate. Richard said there was no doubt that it made a difference. Let me know if you do it,
Tom
