Default Gear Heads Shift Up & In

Looking for some advice and opinions!
My 2006 mods included cam and headers and zo6 exhaust. Next in line will be some type of CAI (hopefully before yr. end). However; for 2007 I am looking to upgrade my gears. I have a 2001 m6 with 3.42's (I presume). I have tried to devour any and all threads about gears and rear end which makes this a "must have" mod. My driving will be mostly street (although I am anxious to give the track a shot). The car is not driven daily and sees about 5000k mi/per only on sunny AZ days.
OK- with that as my profile, I leaning toward 3.90's.
How will this effect milage, gear shifting?
Cost? (parts and labor- I believe this is beyond my wrenching abilities)
Vender?
RPM difference from 3.42's to 3.90"s?

and lastly, any $.02 you might want to add.

As usual, look forward to your spirited and informative feedback.

Thank you,

ps. if anyone is looking to change out there set in the near future, let me know.

The gear swap is the cheapest performance mod that I have done to my 03 Z. I had DTS , one of the forum vendors, rebuild my rear end using 4.10 gears and I may lose about 3 miles per gallon but the sotp was a blast. The car turns about 2050 rpm at 70 mph in 6th gear.
The cost for the rebuild was about 900 bucks and a qualified speed shop should do the swap for about 400.
