I am debating between the Kumho ASX all season tire and the Kumho SPT summer tire. I have a 2001 coupe and live in Atlanta. Snow pretty much does not exist. I am looking at the Kumho due to price and the fact that I put a lot of miles on the car during a year.
Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on which Kumho model they would pick and why?
I can not comment on the SPT. I purchased the ASX for my 98 , we have the extreme in temperatures in Oklahoma, I have driven when it is 5 above and 105 F and all sorts of weather.
In short I had no complaints on the ASX. It has plenty of traction in the summer, but I don't race, but an occasional spirited exceleration on entrance ramps. For the price I don't think you would go wrong with either.
Thanks for all the feedback. This all builds a strong case for the ASX. According to discount tires website the all season will have a longer treadlife. About 30% more based on my calculation. The SPT has 320AA and the ASX has 420AA. According to discount tire the higher the number the longer the tread life.
Has anyone used a summer tire that can offer feedback?
Our 97 MN6 has ASX's on it and I have been satisfied with their performance and low noise. I no longer do any racing but have "hung the tail out" briefly a couple of times and the tires were predictable. It all depends on how you intend to drive your Vette!
I got the ECSTA MX. Amazing ride, quiet, I absolutely love them. I wish they had a better wear rating (I think they are 220), but the price is right, they are runflats so the risk is minimal. Check them out. And discount tire matched the price of TireRack exactly - plus installation of course.
I just got the SPT's last week and they hook up great. Road noise and comfort is much improved compaired to the Eagle GT's. The only complaint that I have is that the sidewall doesnt seem as stiff so you can feel a little roll when you turn the wheel at highway speed.
