I have an '02 A4 with the 2.73 rear end. If I have TC/AH on and punch it from a dead stop, I get minimal if any wheels spin. If I go into Competitive Driving mode (which I though gives free wheel spin) and punch it from a stop, I get more spin...but still very small (feels like it might spin for a second or so). Coming back from lunch today I wanted to do a test and I completey turned off TC/AH. From a punch, I literally let off the gas after about 30 feet of wheel spin!
Mind you, I know spin is bad if you are trying to be quick, but I was totally shocked with how much it would spin. My tires are stock GY run flats with 25k on them, but there is quite a lot of tread left to them.
TC/AH on will only allow very little tired spin before kicking in.
AH only (comp mode) you are free to spin the tires as long as you are going straight. Drag Racer run in Comp mode and do burn outs with no problems. also Road race guys run in comp mode. Tires can spin, but AH will kick in if needed.
no setting - free to spin until you hit some thing....
