Default Oil Pressure 130psi ???

Started the car this morning and noticed the analoge gauge was pegged.

Shut it down, gauge zeroed, upon restart it pegged again.

Digital gauge reads 130 psi and HUD bar gauge is pegged also.

What do ya think?

Bad pressure sender?, blocked filter bypass?

If it is the sender, does anyone know where it is?

Thanks

Very common problem. it's the sensor,

Location: back of the intake manifold
Procedure: Removed intake manifold> twist sensor out> assemble in reverse order.

This isnt' the most difficult procedure but it's not filling your washerfuild or changing wiper blades either. ...

heres directions on how to removed the manifold.

Thanks Guys,

Doesn't look too tough.

Is the stealer the only place to get a replacement?

Yes, However I frequently buy parts from these guys and have no account, But they often give me a discount. You can actually talk them down on parts at a dealership believe it or not. Think I paid around $56 for this part. List is $66.73.Even if it is only ten dollars, that ten dollars towards tires.

Here is a great DIY wrtie-up by CF member Vectorz...

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ressure+sensor

many members suggest the Bosch replacement part ( brass) over the GM part ( aluminum)

Many claim that the replacement GM parts only lasts months.

Another couple heads- up
1. torque it in place to 15 ft-lbs...
2. put an extension on the vaccum line as it is a pain to try and re-attach once the intake is on.

Try Rock Auto at www.rockauto.com. ~$35.00 I buy lots of basic parts from them. Reasonable, fair and fast.

here's my secrete on buying parts from the dealership... Typically Gmpartsdirectdotcom has the best prices i've seen. however i've never bought anything from them. I usually get the price off their webpage and then call my dealership. They try to stick in my u know what but then i say... You know i cna get it from "gmparts" for x price including shipping.. They look and realize it's still above cost and go ahead and give it to me every time for the same price or sometime a lil less.

don't ever pay retail if you don't have to

Few people here pay GM Parts direct prices... Most of us deal only with Gene Culley at Fred Beans, he is less than GM Parts direct, and you can talk to him... if you have a problem he is there for you.. try that with GM Parts direct... Gene also see to it that we do not have to pay to be on this forum because Fred Beans sponsors the C5 General Corvette Forum..

I paid $35 at Autozone for a new sensor, just havent had time to get it put on. The stealership wanted about $500 for the part and install, but a member said it would be 60-120 plus the part

Thanks guys,

I called Gene at Fred Beans, $42 shipped.

There was a myth that they were selling for $18 there, myth busted.

I printed the Vectorz Post, looks pretty simple, he did a nice job with the photos.
