I got in my car this weekend and was looking in the mirrors before I backed up and my driver's side mirror was loose. I got out to checked to see if it had been hit but there was no marks on the front or back. The power controls are good but the mirror moves very easy forwards and back while I am driving. I try to pull up to see if it was going to come off but it only moves up about 1 1/2 inches. Has anybody else had this problem or no what might be the culprit? Trying to find answers before I go to the dealer. I have a 98 A4 coupe.
Assume you are saying that the main body is loose from the lower stalk, and that the mirror body is swinging. The dealer will tell you that there is no fix, but as with most things they say can't be fixed, they can if you take the time to do it.
There are threads on here that will walk you through a step by step fix. (do search) I did mine about a month ago and it has benn fine. The key to the process is that you saw a channel to reset the nut. It is an arcayic (sp??) setup that wasn't meant to be fixed, but if you follow the directions and take your time you can do in about 60-90 mins. (alot of time is spent taking apart door just to get too mirrir stalk) and save your self a few hundred between parts and paint. pm me if you need more info.

Contact Ed Swaneck at 330-727-3188. He repairs your original mirror (that you remove and send to him) in one-day and returns it to you via UPS for $70.00. This information was in the September 2006 issue of Corvette Fever.
