Default Replacing Ignition switch

I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 2000 C5 6 speed car from the insurance co. (theft recovery) They stole the seats, door panels and roof panel, however, when the car arrived from out of state the ignition switch assy was missing.

I can buy a complete assy on ebay or buy from a dealer.
My questions is does the car then have to be sent to the dealer to be programed after installing the replacement switch, or does anyone out there know what to do?

I would appreciate any help. Thanks
Bob

Bob, this is a job for the dealer. I'd sacrifice some dough to have this done correctly by a legitimate GM Goodwrench.

Sounds like you got this car to fix up yourself. Buy a used ignition switch with keys and do it yourself. Check eBay or Gene at Gene's Kar Shop a Forum Vendor for parts. A set of Gm Service manuals would be a big help.

Yes I am a fix it yourself guy. Do you know if I do buy a switch off ebay with keys and then install it ,is there some programming that would have to be done at the dealer? I am trying to avoid flat bedding the car to the dealer and running the risk of damage and the cost.

Do yourself a favor and buy the GM service manual set for your Corvette. This set consists of three thick volumes that cover the car top to bottom, and bumper to bumper.

Vendors on this forum sell them at a discount. Current full price is $135.00 through the publisher Helm Inc. http://www.helminc.com/

You'll need a set of service manuals and a lot of Patience, but it can be done. You just need to do a key relearn.
BTW Knowing the problems with the lock cylinder get a new one.
