Hardcore Engine Crazies : EVAP removal Inside
OK, OK, OK - I admit I have "issues".
So while I have my car stripped bare, drivetrain and fuel tanks removed, blah blah blah - I wondered what I would have to do to remove the whole EVAP system.
Just wondering if any of you hardcore crazies have done this - and if yes, what should I look out for?
Anyone?

Project 2: Removal of the stupid AIR system
Today after work I started removing the AIR pump and assorted hosing. I blew an AIR tube off at VIR and have decided to ditch the entire system. With the front bumper off the car it's the perfect time to do it.
Here's the AIR pump assembly... if you don't know, this pumps fresh air into the exhaust system at startup to help the cats work quicker for cold start emissions... that's all!
Here's the AIR pump intake... when you use a Vortex intake they give you this little filter to put on it.
Remove the plug
Remove the vaccum hose... I'll hvae to cap this later.
Here's most of the stupid system out... I hit a snag... I'll explain below.
As smooth as yesterday's work went I jinxed myself today... 2 things. First, I was removing the driver's side valve cover and my 8mm socket fell of and lodged itself on the front sub-frame under the powersteering rack!!! Took me an hour of fishing to get it out. Second, there is a bolt on the backside of the driver's side head that holds the last part of the AIR system on. You're supposed to just loosen it and slide the sutff out. Well I tried for an hour to get it loose but it was so tight I couldn't get enough leverage. I'll be pulling the intake manifold tomorrow to get better access to it.
Passenger side coil packs removd... one stupid part of AIR left!
Last bit of the stupid AIR system out!!!!
As for the vaccum line and plug... I just got an vaccum cap from my assorted kit, capped the line that runs to the pump, then wrapped it all in electrical tape and zip tied it secure to the frame.
I would like to remove my EVAP system too. If it does not make the car faster, remove it. Please do a how-to. What are the cons of removing it? Increased fuel odor possibly?

Biggest con is that codes will have to be disabled and you will not pass emissions. And yes, there will be increased fuel order.

Any ides on what to use instead of the evap system? Just a tank vent?
