Default Anyone Replace the Radiator Shroud themselves?

Hey,

Just wondering if anyone on here replaced the radiator shroud themselves and if they think it was easy or hard...and if you could send me a list of directions for removing old one and installing new one.

Just asking...because am thinking of changing Intakes to something other than cold air....and need to replace the shroud with the hole in it with a new one.

Let me know
Thanks

I took mine out to cut it for the Vortec!
If I remember right, take the 4 top shroud bolds out. A couple more under the front. Disconnect the hood light, and there’s another connector you have to take off from underneath! (Most air boxes have complete directions with them)
That's about it. Not to hard. It doesn't make cutting the hole any easier, it still take patients!
Best of luck,
Tim

My ram air kit came with a new shroud so all I had to do was remove and replace.

I didn't have any instructions when I put mine in, so it's pretty straight forward.

I'll be cleaning my air filter tomorrow, so if you need some SOTP instructions let me know I'll take a look and take some notes.

I've done it twice and it's not difficult. I can write something up, but too tired now.

Radiator Shroud Removal:
- Get the car on a set of ramps.
- Remove the entire air intake system, all the way back to the throttle body.
- Underneath, remove the spring loaded air dam, 10mm bolts.
- Underneath, remove the trim screws holding the bottom of the radiator shroud, 7mm screws.
- Underneath, detach the outside air temperature sensor from the bottom of the shroud.
- Underneath, detach the clamp holding your MAF harness. This is pushed through from the top, then expands to hold, like a molly. You'll need needle nose pliers to squeeze the ends.
- Above, remove the radiator bridge, 10mm bolts.
- On my 2001 (I assume this applies to all, but not certain), there are two odd trim plugs that attach the shroud to the A/C condenser. I don't believe there is a way to loosen them. I checked with 3 dealers to order replacements, but the part numbers aren't in their systems. There is an aluminum push nut engaged from the front of the car on to what looks just like a trim plug, but with two heads. One head is directly behind the radiator shroud, and the second (or top), is directly behind the A/C condenser.
- I take the shroud and pull straight towards the front of the car. In my case, this pops the top head through the holes on the A/C condenser.
- Now, except for the harness for the hood light, the radiator shroud is free. As you pull it from the top of the car, disconnect the hood light harness, when convenient.
- Once removed, I use a flat screwdriver and needle nose pliers to pry off the aluminum push nut. Flatten it and save. Remove the trim plugs from the radiator shroud (mine always stay with it), then reattach them to the A/C condenser.
- The removal of this "plug" broke part of the top head (did so on each side), but I have reused them twice. Would have preferred replacement.
