how much h.p. can i expect if i replace the current cam with a racing or mod. one and keep the heads stock. have a 2000 corvette 6sp.with a mod. air intake installed (honker unit)
With whatever cam you choose, i would recomend getting long tube headers to maximize gains. Depending on what your goals are for the car and how big you want to go, i would say on average with a small cam (ie.224/224) would be at least 45+rwhp and another 25-35 with heads depending how much your willing to spend.
thanks, the 45 rwhp, does that include headers and cam or just cam. i have been thinking about putting headers on the car, what is the story about long headers vs short.
Depending on where you live, long tubes may not be legal (ie.cali) , but will give you a lot better performance vs. short. Long tubes on the car alone will give you 20-30rwhp. It's hard to say what the #s would be with cam and no LT's, but it would be lower and hurt the performance of the car for sure. A cam without haders, is like cerial without milk.
My friend with his 02 6 speed manual added 112 rwhp over stock with full exhaust, cams, cai, pulley and tune. With the cams and pulley he added 64 rwhp.
I have shorty headers, g5x3, pulley, Vararam, borla stingers and stock heads and cats. I have been in a couple cars with long tubes and they are very loud. The shorties cost me about 10 hp (have a friend with a similar setup but long tunes). I'll eat that 10 hp to keep it sounding mean w/out being obnoxious.
again, thanks for the info . cam work is starting to interest me. man where does it stop. oh well thats why we have hobbies. i agree with keeping the noise to a minimum. Since i'm not able to do cam work myself ,what kind of cost am i looking at to have cam work done.
