Hey guys, I had an interesting evening. I have to park my '99 vert outside, and around 2:30 am last night I was awoken to my horn going off without any cause. It was not beeping like it does when you hit pannic, just a loud, solid honk that would not end till I got in the car and hit the steering wheel. Almost exactly an hour later it did it again. By this time I was sure that I was not winning friends in my neighborhood, so I pulled the horn fuse from under the hood and that shut her up. Have you ever heard of this happening or know what it might be? Thanks alot
Had the exact same thing happen to me. I left the fuse pulled until it was time to get the car inspected. At that point I gritted my teeth and reinstalled the fuse. My hope was that it would work long enough to get through the inspection.
To my shock and amazement, it's worked fine ever since! And, since the air bag control module is around $500 alone, I was quite happy!
So, unless you really have a nice working relationship with your horn, I'd just keep the fuse pulled until it's time for your inspection and hope for the best.
Another thing you can do is to put a relay inline to the horn relay from the steering column, using switched power to the relay. That way the problem will only occur when the key is on.
Thanks alot for your help!! But, what is this 'inspection' stuff that you mentioned?! Florida got rid of inspections about 5 yrs. ago so I might get one of those stadium air horns and use that
My car has this problem too. You can notice on mine that the right side airbag cover/horn area is depressed. The cover has deformed over time and heat, and/or any spring that was in there is gone. I can run the horn for a few days without issues, but all at once the weather will change and the horn will go off and I'll have to pull the fuse again. I've been meaning to get in there and cut the wire to the side that's deformed so I can use the left side horn instead of buying a new module.

My fuse has been pulled for 2 months.. It went off 2 EARLY mornings in a row as soon as it got cold.. I Got cut off this morning by some moron in a F350 and am thinking about popping that fuse back in and giving it another try.. This must be some sort of factory defect.. Just Way too many people w/ the same problem
my 99 started doing it today, I had to pull the fuse # 11
under the hood. locate yours now so you will know where it is when you have to pull your fuse.
Before I got mine repaired, I took out the fuse and left it on top of the center console. I put it back each start while the car is warming up. GM should have stepped up to the plate on this.
