After reading problems with the Yellows for everyday use, is it logical to say RedTop is the one to go with? How about if I store my car all winter yet drive it 2-3 times a week in the summer time? Should I get Yellowtop or Redtop? TIA!
rschiltz - yes, the Optimas will fit right in. The ONLY ones I've see are series 39/78 ( or is that 38/79?) but in any case, the 78/79 part is the direct replacement for the Vette. The dual series is because they have both the side and top posts.
Red top has a 3 year warranty, yellow has 1. Red is designed for daily use - yellow is "deep cycle" like for boat trolling motors where you drain the charge down to zero and then recharge from scratch.
Folks have used both with no adverse affects. But red was designed for daily use. JMHO. :yesnod:
Given the demands the C5 places on the battery, especially during storage, I think the Yellow Top makes more sense. I've never heard of any problems from using the Yellow Top. If anything, the Yellow Top is less prone to problems because it will not be affected by repeated discharges.
Steve,
Don't be fooled by consumer reports these are a bunch of people who really don't know much about what they are testing. I once read a test on mountain bikes and they rated them by which one coasted down a hill the longest distance. The main reason for the optima battery is to get one that will not leak. I've had two ac delcos that did this luckily no damage. also the ac delco proffesional is not any better for those who are concerned. If you find a different brand that positively will not leak let me know. Until then i highly recomend the optima. :chevy
