Default Air in Coolant system

I changed my t'stat from the OEM to a 180, now my hwy temps (198/201)are higher than the OEM hwy temps (192/196)but lower in stop and go traffic 205 to 210 OEM 221. Thinking I may have air in the system, so I want to know how do you remove the air from the cooling system.
Thanks,
SLPRC5

The fans are set to come on and go off for a 160 T-stat, even at those seting it ran cooler with the OEM T-stat. That's why I think it may be air in the system or a defective 180 T-stat.

Sounds normal to me.
Lower fan settings are helping in stop and go - have less impact at hiway speeds. Thermostat, unless defective , has no effect on operating temp. 5 degrees variations are too small to attribute to a specific cause.

Well, I think it maybe defective. Why would it run higher temps at hwy speeds than the OEM T-stat? SO I'll have to remove it and test it in a pot of hot water I guess. So before I do that, how do you test/remove air from the cooling system?
Thanks

I might run higher temps because:
Higher ambient temp.
Different coolant mix.
Partial radiator obstruction (trash).
Lean air/fuel ratio.
Thermostat only partially open (unlikely).

Other than following the procedure for coolant change, I don't know how to remove air from the cooling system...sorry.

Ambient temps in low 80s
Coolant mix is at -5*
Rad is clean
AFR not touched
T'stat operation - questionalble (brand new Hypertech 180*)

Thanks for the input..

some people say jacking the right front up helps to bleed it,run the heater. squeezing the upper rad hose will help you can feel if there is air in it .do all these things engine cold ,cap off. what temp did ya set the fans are they both working. do ya have heat. all else fails leave cap off over night. old racer trick on stats give it an asprin. realy you force the popet open and put the pill to hold it open then put it together it lets the air out then dissolves IT WILL NOT HURT COOLING SYSTEMS . good luck let us know whats up

Nice trick ..with the asprin
Well the fans were set for a 160 T-stat. Took it out tonight when the ambient temp was 58* an still the temp went to 208 under hard driving and cruising was 199 to 202. I believe it maybe a faulty T-stat. Like I mentioned my OEM at cruise was in the low 190s in ambient temps of 80*+. Only reason I didn't stick with the OEM is because it climbs to 220*+ in city driving.
I do have LS6 heads and cam and the LS6 does run a few degrees hotter than the LS1.
So I'll take the 180* out and check it...I may go back to the 160* and let it be.
