gm doesnt say when to r+r it just when ya have a problem. my opine i would do it after 50 k. keeps injectors and pump happy. i have slp exhaust on my 01 so its easy to remove the pipe and that makes it much easier

I would do it now. I'm sure it's easy to DIY, but my dealer was very fair on his price for me. My Chevy dealer is good about using parts I bring in too, including Mobil 1 oil that I purchase at Wal-Mart very inexpensively.

What year is your C5? 97-98 fuel filter is cheaper, so I change mine every year. 99-03 is more expensive, it's a single unit with the FPR built in. As for 04+, good luck!

Close. It's actually "As for mid-model year 2003 and newer, GOOD LUCK!"

During the middle of the build year for 2003 cars the EPA forced GM to put the fuel filter INSIDE the tank, and downgrade the fuel injection to a less robust system. You have to drain and drop the tank to change the fuel filter on those cars. Not a DIY prpject for most of us!

I don't have pics, but.... The filter is on the driver's side, rear, just in front of the diff / tranny on the frame rail. relieve the fuel pressure using the schrader valve on the front of the fuel rail supply under the hood. Be sure to have a rag to soak up the fuel that will come out, not a lot, but under a little pressure. Then go under the car and disconnect the filter from both ends, unbolt it from the frame and reverse the procedure with te new filter. Turn the key to "ON", but not "START" and let the gages sweep and the fuel pump to pressurize the fuel rails, then start her up!!

Should take you about 20 minutes at most.

I know, I know, still looking for pictures.....

Default fuel filter

20 minutes is he using superman?
If you have an automatic lower the left muffler after removing 2 bolts and gasket from the H pipe. Then you have room to access the filter.
Take care to carefully remove the plastic retainer clips AND REPLACE THEM with NEW ONES. My filter started leaking after about 7 years. Was the retainers kinda deteriorating and leaking gas onto the muffler like a waterfall. Posted detailed instructions about a month or 2 ago. \
Good luck. BIGHANK

You don't need to remove any exhaust parts to change the filter, but it makes things easier.
