I am really interested in putting LG street headers on my car. I have Corsa Indy's and I am very happy with the way they sound. I am concerned that if I put headers on, they will get a lot louder. I am also a freak about mechanical sound. My 69 Chevelle (kid car) always seemed to have an exhaust tick with headers. That would bug me. Can anyone comment on the overall noise increase and any ticking problems with these headers.
I have GHL Bullets, then added the LT headers. Yes, the sound will change - get louder and "more mechanical" sounding, just like you experienced in your Chevelle.
Personally I like the sound, but from your post it may be that headers are not for you. They don't provide much of a power increase, so my recommendation would be to pass on the headers.
I have LG Streets and I do have the sound that you speak of. I have decided that I am going to wrap the lower half of the headers and part of the exhaust near the shifter housing. I might do little insulating near the shifter as well as I think that is where my noise is entering the passenger compartment. I don't mind the sound when I am outside of the car, I just don't like the noise that is entering the car. If that doesn't help I am ditching the Ti catback and just going for an all out rumble.
I have Kooks, stock cats, xpipe and Ti's. Headers add enough sound that you may not be happy unlees you take the time and sound deaden/insulate after install. After a cam, manifold and headers though the extra power is welcome.
However, headers change the overall sound and I don't think you will ever get the low sound signature of the stock, heavy cast headers.
Months ago I put the B&B Route 66's on my stock car and was a little dissappointed that they were too quiet - only slightly louder than stock but a better sound. My only other mod at the time was a Callaway intake.
Just last week put on AR long tubes with x pipe and cats and the car is quite a bit louder inside at 1000-1500 rpm. Could see where this might be bothersome to some people but I kinda like it. Outside the car is plenty loud now.
The headers and tune really made a very noticable difference in power.
