Default Ported LS-6 intake?

Is it a worthy mod on a heads/cam car? If so where can I purchase one? Also what about a modified throttle body and modified MAF? Mine are all stock.

The cheapest place I've seen to get a LS6 Intake is http://www.paceparts.com I think they are charging $375. Its not ported though. I think I've seen ported ones but can't remember where. If anyone knows who sells a ported LS6 intake please let me know where.

vettvert,

I have a 99 vert with cartek stage 2 heads and gm hotcam. I had already purchased the ls6 intake and had it installed (cost me around 385 from paceparts) I dynoed the car at PTC in Elk Grove Village, IL. I sent 300 to have the intake manifold ported and was assured it was good for 7-9rwhp. I gained nothing, zip, zero, nada, from the 'porting'. I was flamed repeatedly on this board for posting the results from the same dyno, the numbers were corrected, and the temp and humidity was about the same anyway.

Cartek told me it was my tuning, which was done by Ed Wright. My car is running slightly rich, and if I could get to 13.2 to 1 instead of the 12.7 to one I am at now, I would gain from the 396 rwhp that I am at now. However I have no KR or detonation, in general, slightly rich is safe. If I had to do it over again I would not get the 'porting' done to the intake. I WOULD DEFINETLY recommend you get the ls6 intake however, if you have heads and cam. You will gain 10-15 rwhp most in the upper rpms, from this switch. As for the 'porting' all I can relate is my experience. Please don't take this as a knock on cartek, I love their heads and they are great people, I just am relating my personal, still unresolved, experience.

AVETTE,

I appreciate your honesty relating your experience with the LS6 intake manifold. It is much easier for me to swallow $375+ installation for the 10-15 RWHP than the $750+ for the 10-20 RWHP. Your dyno experience backs up your claim. Did you do any work to your MAF or throttle body? Thanks.

I got mine from Cartek and they seemed to been one of the first tuners to offer the ported Ls6 intake. They claim 10rwhp on heads and cam :D

Looks like Pace Parts raised their prices. They are advertising the 2001 LS6 intake for $462. I am curious if the 2002 LS6 intake is different.......

Does anyone have the part number for the LS6 intake manifold? Is it the same for 2001 and 2002? Thanks for any help!

Sorry, forgot to add this.

Fitchner advertises: Z06 LS6 Manifold
Package Includes: LS6 Manifold, CrossOver Pipe, CrossOver Pipe Plugs
Forum Member Price $461.17

Is the Z06 manifold different from that on the regular cars? Is the Z06 what you guys are using? What is this "CrossOver Pipe, CrossOver Pipe Plugs" stuff about?

Sorry for all the questions - just making plans......

I wonder if all of them come with a crossover pipe and crossover plugs. Good question George. I was told that the 2001 & the 2002 iZ06 ntakes are identical.

How about the LS6 Intake on a stock LS1 engine ? Any benefits that would justify the swap ?

There's close to zero gain on stock LS1's.

Yeah, I'm with Buckmaster on this one. If you've got a pre-2001 heads/cam car, definitely do the intake manifold. It made a big difference on my car!

Then everyone agrees on a stock 2000 vette the LS6 intake would be a waste of time and money ?

As the intake is made of a type of plastic, how can it be ported? I read a couple of articles that said the LS1/6 intakes can not be ported like metal intakes can.
