Tachometer fluctuates
I have a 97 automatic. My tach will stop working and if I smack the dash above the speedometer it will start working again. Could this be an electrical connection that is loose at the tach?

Very likely a bad connection. Could be in the gauge itself though. I would pull the cluster and remove the main board and tighten up the screws on the back of all the gauges, clean all the connections, and reassemble and see what happens. Fairly simple task, probably 4 hours work at the most. GM uses a flexible circuit board in the back of the cluster which can be problematic and lead to bad connections. Several connections in the cluster that could be causing the problem.
