If your comparing a Cold Air Vortex to a underhood Blackwing (donaldson), the Vortex b/c of Cold Air, will provide roughly double the perfermance increase... say .4 sec in the quarter compared to .2. However, you can purchase a Cold air box for the Donaldson that will equal the performance of the Vortex.

I went with the Blackwing. I had not heard of the double performance for the cold air units before. Some posts suggest the LS1 is not starved for air so the "performance" is just SOTP and not real. I just know mine vette seems to run better after the Blackwing install. If you can get double the performance with the cold air units then maybe that is the best way to go. Check the C5 Parts section and try and pick-up a used Vortex or Blackwing. Better bang for the buck that way.

If price is an issue you will find the Vortec to be a real value I think it comes in at 100.00 less than the Donaldson with cold air and a whole lot cheaper than the Halltech. FYI stay away from the Twin flow types :nonod:
