Hi, I want to install a small shift light (only-no tach) up on my dash to the left near the window post. My question is, has anyone had experience in running wires down the front of the dash and through the fire wall so that I may connect the wires to the appropriate places? If so, I would sure appreciate some advice. Thanks.
you can tap all the necessary wires from under the dash. Took me about 45 minutes to do. Do a search for Raptor shift light install.
Like said above, search in (current and archive) C5 Tech section for "Raptor shift light", the wire you need to attach to is located right below the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), white wire the best I remember. That signal is the tach signal bought into the IPC for the tach reading. Very easy to access. A lot of people mount their shift lights on the plastic pilar post cover itself. It is very easy to run the wires down the post behind the plastic molding and out under the dash, there is actually a small channel in the metal pilar post that GM runs wires in.
I had my Raptor installed in less than 30 minutes (light mounted on pillar even with bottom of factory tint line with 2 sided tape) and all the wires were in passenger footwell including taped up power pigtail. Just push the wires to pass side using a long small wooden dowl behind the console. Some people also go for the wires under the steering column panels.
This bundle is in far right upper passenger footwell in tape. Its a tight fit to splice a wire in though so be patient. You will to probe a couple white wires to find right one for tach wire (I got it on 2nd white wire I tried). With key on, the tach will jump when you hit the right one with a test light.
The power/ground pigtail is not in all years though(quit in 04), but drop the module down (it clips in and swings down on hinges) in passenger left footwell and have a look if its there or not.
