I am swapping out my #853 cast heads for some ported and polished #241 cast heads with some beefed up springs and retainers while doing my cam install on my '99. What type of gaskets do I need? I read somewhere about a notch on the #853 cast heads that may require a different gasket. Is there any truth in this? Any gasket manufacturer recommendations with part number?
We use the stock Gm mls gaskets but they dont work with the notched heads. You can ask about the Fel Pro or you might have to go to a cometic. We have not used that head in years so I am really not sure whose gaskets work on the old LS1 heads.

Thank you for the reply. Are you referring to the "old" heads as the #853 or 241? I understand that they are both older versions but I guess what I really need to know is what gaskets I should use to install the #241 heads on my '99 LS1 block. Thanks

I think the 241 heads dont have the cut out in the deck surface. I know the later 241 dont but not sure about the early ones. If your deck surface is flat I woud just run the stock 5.7 mls gaskets.

Careful when you buy head bolts too there are 2 241 casting designs the late 04's had an odd head bolt config. Some 241 do have the notches some dont. Call Lpe they helped me out last time and told me what I needed.
