Ok so my vette still have the original run-flat tires on and about a week ago i got a low pressure reading on my rear left tire. i pumped it up but a couple days later i got it again. i checked it and it had lost practically all the air. I took it to the dealer hoping to just get it patched or repaired and they called me and said "you have to replace ALL 4 tires." when i asked why they said "you can't just replace 1 run-flat, you have to do all of them." I'm so confused.....are they just bs-ing me or what? I don't really have the money to replace all 4 tires right now so i'm trying to figure out what to do.....any advice?
There's nothing that says you "have" to replace all 4 tires at the same time. However, I would think that it would be a good practice to do so. At a minimum, I would replace the fronts or the rears together.

oh ok so they're basically just saying i should replace all 4? why is it a good practice to do all 4, just so they wear evenly? so lets say i just did the rear tires, would that be bad?

I know of nothing that says you have to replace all 4 at one time, BUT..
If these are the original tires on your 97 (per your signature) I would say they are way past their natural life, as opposed to just tread life. The rubber and other chemicals in tires ages with time and compromises tire integrity, I suspect your's are way past that point.
MTCW Try to replace all 4 soon. Remember brakes stop your wheels, tires stop your car.........

well its a 99 actually with about 50k miles on it but yeah i guess you might be right about them needing to be replaced. i guess i'm just looking for a temporary solution since i really cant afford to do all 4 now. maybe the rears now and the fronts in a couple months or something?.....does that sound reasonable?

WOW! Almost 50,000 miles, AND original run flat tires??????????
Man, I'd like to have a set of tires just like those! I don't think I'll get anything close to 50,000 out of mine.
I would guess that your tires are not the original, check the build code on them should show 2 numbers for week of the year and 2 numbers for year.
1298 would be 12th week of 98... last week in March of 1998. That will tell you the age. If over 5 years you are pushing it.
Once you have that info you could make a choice of 2 tires or 4.

Curious as to what's wrong with the tire? Are they saying it can't be repaired? I'd get another dealers opinion before laying out the $$.

they said it had a nail in it. and when i asked if it could be repaired the guy said, "no, we don't have the equipment"......whatever that means. maybe i will try taking it somewhere else and see what they say....thanks
