I was installing a battery on my C5 and while I was clamping down the battery to secure it in place, the socket fell off the ratchet and down into the hole in the floor pan area. I can't see it but I'm pretty sure its down there. How can I get it out? Do you think it matters if I leave it in there? I really want to get it, but it looks like I'll really have to pull things apart to get down there.
Not sure if this would help but try a magnet on the end of a stick or a rope. It may stick to other parts and may require patience but it may work.
Good luck
That's right. Telescopic magnetic retrieval tools can be purchased at your local tool store. Mine came from Autozone, it's the size of an ink pen, it telescopes out to 1-1/2 ft. and can pick up 1 lbs.! :seeya

Re: Need help, made a bonehead move (rschiltz)
Not a problem. Jack up car and remove the plastic panel on the back side bottom portion of the wheel well. Should be about 7 to 10 screws or so. Once off you can see the in the area where the pesky little critter went! (You might need a flashlight)

I have done this move twice, the telescopic magnet as someone previously mentioned has rescued me twice. Gee.........was it on the negative terminal?
Man, no tool kit is complete without a few magnets! I have a few telescopic ones, one on a rope, one that can pick up 100#, etc.
This tool is second only to the beer fridge in the garage.
