I have the same problem - on a 99 convertible. As long as the power antenna motor is still operating, you should be able to simply replace the mast (which comes with the toothed flexible rail).

To confirm, remove the black bezel and slip it over the mast. Turn the radio on. With the radio still on, you should be able to pull the mast completely out. It may take some gentle pulling.

If istcomes out, examine the toothed rail. Mine has some wear that was either jamming or missing with the motor gear. IYou can replace the mast assembly for about $40 (or less from eBay).

If it looks broken - i.e. jagged end, you will have to extract the motor through the right tail light. Not too difficult - just take your time.

To replace or reinstall, keep the radio on and thread the rail back into hole. Seat the mast in the hole. Keeping slight pressure, have someone turn the radio off. The gear on the motor will engage the rail and retract the mast.
