I just sold my '04 that's equipped with Bassini headers and hi-flow cats. On the way home with the new owner the engine light came on and showed code P0430 (cats). It was reset from the DIC, went off a few days, and then came back on. The headers/cats have been on about 2 years, the car has 15K miles and has never thrown a code like this. The car set around for about 6-8 weeks waiting to be sold, I started it and drove around the block occasionally, but no highway use. The guy took it to a Chevy dealer who said both cats were bad and sensors were good based on ohm readings. Needless to say, cats are not covered under warranty.
My theory is the cats need some driving time to get hot and "cleaned out" after sitting around. Anyone have an experience like this or know of any specific testing to do?
best thing to do is go to a tuner and get the rear 02 sensor deleted and you shouldnt have a problem. I doubt its bad cats ...but i could be wrong. My car threw the same codes and its from the long tube header install. For some reason the rear 02's jsut dont like hi-flow cats.

It took awhile for my HiFLO cats to aggrevate the rear 02 sensors too...but once that code starts, you have to do one of two things: 1. have a tuner "tune out" the rear 02 sensors, OR...2. install "02 simulators" (they tell the PCM that everything is OK) in place of the rear 02 sensors... until you do one or the other, you will get the CEL with this code.. this common occurrence with HiFlo cats has no effect on performance, just driver frustration..
Thanks guys, I've heard of tuning out the rear sensors. The thing that still puzzles me is the car was great for 2 years, about 10,000 miles with no problems, just fun........then the day I sell it the code starts coming up It's the new owners 1st Vette and he dosen't know much about them.
Anyone think that just driving it some more would help?
Thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate it . I think I'll go the tuner turn off route, I've read in here about probs with sims related to not good lifespan.
Supposivly I had my rear O2s turned off, BUT now and again I still get a CEL and code 0161 (O2 #2 Bank #2). Whats with that?
That's your front (forward) 02 Sensor. Has nothing to do with the Rear 02s you had tuned out. It's telling you Bank #2 is running too rich. Bottom Line, you need a tune. A/F ratio may not be correct... your tuner can check/correct this, unless this front 02 Sensor is defective & needs replacing.
Good ol' O2 sensors. This is the most frustrating part of modding a C5. Once you start changing headers/cats/engine mods/ etc, you're in for some type of Check engine lamp issues. I've been fighting to get mine straight for months. Good luck, but the rear o2 codes should be easy enough to delete without any other issues.
