Hi, I'm from the C3 Forum. A buddy of mine and I have been in the hobby for 30+ yrs now with simalar '68 convertables we both purchased in '76. He also has a 2003 C5. He did me a huge favor in the way of manual labor this summer, and I want to get him a nice Christmas gift as part "Thank You". I was thinking of a cold air kit for his C5. The SLP unit looks good to me, what do you guys think, or which system would you suggest. Thanks.....Jimmy
There were a couple of threads on the different intakes. The Callaway came out WAY ahead of the others. Also cost way more. $500 if I remember correctly. You'd be a really GOOD friend though.

For the cost and the performance (and better fit with the new B2 design) I would go with the VaraRam. I put one in my 2003 C5 and love it.
I have a complete SLP/DONALDSON cold air system for sale in the CF classifieds if interested. It can be used with or without the cold air cover.
That's a very thoughtful gift, no one ever did that for my labor... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...kwing+for+sale
For true cold air kits the Honker is the best that I have seen as far as fit/finish/performance - and the most expensive. You would be an incredible friend to pick one up at the sticker price of $490.
Thanks for the input, the Callaway "Honker" system looks great, but is more then I want to spend. Hotwheels 57, I'm not familar with the "Icebox" My buddy and I both have wildly modified '68s, but he is particular about mods to his '03. He is torn between mods and a New Z06, so he isn't ready to do irreversable (if there is such a thing) mods to it just yet.

The SLP/DONALDSON BLACKWING is a large blue colored open tapered oval shaped filter, as you're apparently aware. It can be used w/o cutting a hole in the shroud. It maintains your MAF in the oem location, unlike the CALLAWAY HONKER which relocates the MAF closer to the throttle body, ala C6/Z06.
On a C5/Z06, cooler outside air gets to the filter through the front screened openings and from beneath the radiator (bottom breather, air deflected by center air dam upwards).
On a C5, air flow can be improved upon by cutting holes in the plastic surrounds for the fog lights if you have them (no Z06 style screened openings).
If you cut an appropriate sized hole in the radiator shroud on either model and enclose the top portion of the filter with the "ice box" cover, the system becomes an enclosed "cold air" system, drawing air only from beneath the filter...same concept as other air intake systems.
