I have had my 99 for 1 month now and of course before I bought it I checked it out from top to bottom all was perfect, well guess what I forgot to check, there are locking lug nuts and I have no key, the car was bare when I bought it, no info also dealer has no info. How can I get them off, would a tire place have a master or is that asking to much?
TC is referring to a small notch near the edge of the "hidden" rear storage compartments. Or, the locks come with a card that has a number that can be used to order a correct new key, the card could be in the manual or anywhere in the car. If all else fails, the lock nut set is a standard Chevy part, you dealer will have them in stock or can order. Then the shop has to hammer a socket on to the old lock nuts and remove them, this will ruin the nuts and the socket.
The car was completetly bare, not even a manual when I got it. So I have no info or card with the order #. With the FRC I have no hidden compartment in back, I even checked under the carpet just in case. I guess I will have to have them pryed off, which I'm not looking forward to. :mad
Snap On locking lug nut remover TSR600, $36 US. This is a special hardened socket with sharp spiral splines in it that is used to remove rounded off or locking lug nuts. Tap it on and twist off the nut. Snap On makes a whole set of professional tools for defeating locking nuts and wheel covers. Lots of pro wheel thieves use these tools. Makes you wonder why we even bother using the locks. Oh yeah, if the cops go through your car and find it and you don't have a good excuse, they may want to interrogate you further.
