Need some help. Are the short air rams any good?
I have seen two types. The one that splits and has two filters and the one that has just a single filter.
From my experience short ram intakes that take air from underneath the hood aren't that effective. While the overall flow may be increased, once the engine warms up you are sucking hot air.
The dual cone intakes often disrupt the airflow so the PCM thinks more fuel is needed and makes the car run richer and then leaner on decel. If you are looking for increases you must look at packages that bring in cooler ambient air from the outside rathter than heated air from the engine compartment. That is why Calloway, vortex and veraram are popular options. The cooler air produces a denser amount of air (oxygen) to the combustion process. For optimal results, the PCM should be reprogrammed for them.
