Now before you say use the HUD controller and adjust it up or down, or turn the brightness up, here is what appears to have happened.
It looks like whatever held the HUD in its regular position (glue/velcro) whatever seems to have let go. I really looks like it fell down. You can see it on the window if you scootch all the way up on the seat and look down. None of the controls work.
Anyone have this problem before?
Do I need a whole new HUD, or can it be put back in its place?
There is two mirrors in there that could fall out but I think only the front one would be likely to fall out. The front mirror is on pivots to make it adjustable. The only way to really know if it is fixable would be to remove the HUD and take it apart. That means pulling the dash to remove the HUD, which is not really hard to do yourself. If you can stand to have the car down for a little while, pull the HUD and take it apart and see if it can be fixed. If not, order another one from a forum vendor, they are fairly cheap now days. You can reinstall the HUD and test it with the dash out of the car so you will know if it is fixed before you have to reinstall all the dash.
The other problem is the HUD itself may be bad. I had one that the display would not lite in and had to be replaced. The mirror and all would move fine but no display. Once you get the HUD out and apart you can plug it all back up with the HUD lid off and you can see the display to tell if it is lighting up.
I know it still works, and I think it is a problem with one of the mirrors falling. That would make total sense.
Unfortunately i am having the car brought to the dealer to have the Climate control and the HUD fixed. Both things I could do, but I am overseas for a while still.
