does anyone know where I can get a replacement key other than paying $50 at the stealership? I also have been unable to find a battery for one of my key fobs. 2000 vette with vats code #5 and battery is a toshiba CR2450. Thanks in advance guys!

Got CR2450s at the local drug store or food store, About $4 or $5.
2450 is the important number not CR.
Fleebay will get you another fob. Must be FCCID AB00216T for a 2000.
fobs from 97 thru 00 will work. If you get one for $50 your are LUCKY.
These fobs are not as prevalent as the newer ones. $60 to $90 is more
like what you might have to pay. Make sure it says it works and it is
guaranteed. Another thread here told of someone passing off a bad fob
and then relisting it after it was returned by another forum member.
Gots VATS keys on fleebay too about $15 plus shipping. Make sure
you specify right VATS code for resistor pellet. Good Luck
Got my spare key at a local lock & key dealer, less than $ 25.00 for the key and a magnetic hide-a-key compartment. Any well stocked lock & key business should be able to help you out.
I purchased for my 2002 coupe, 2 new in the GM packages FOBS on eBay for $6.99 each.
Contact this seller indianbob5@yahoo.com He goes by the seller name of Truckmug on eBay.

Remember, the 2002 fob won't work on your 2000. The 98, 99 will work but won't have the passive feature available. Look for the 2000 only fob if you need one. I didn't see in your original post that you needed a fob, but thought I'd mention that! You can get the key on ebay if you feel confident about the resistance of the key pellet you need. (#5 as you stated) You can have a key cut locally without the pellet just to open the door, but it won't run your car. Once you buy the key, you'll still have to have it cut to match your old key. The cr2450 is available thousands of places that sell batteries, it's very popular.

I appreciate everyone who gave their input. I don't need a new FOB though... just the battery. And yes I think i will just get a key off ebay 20-25 bucks is a lot better then having to pay the dealership $50!
The correct battery for the 2000 FOB is 2450; but I have only been able to locate 2450N batteries (which don't work). My wife just called Maxell batteries and they told her that GM special ordered the reversed polarity batteries for the 2000 Corvette and has since discontinued their use.
Our GM dealers tell us to goto Radio Shack; but they don't have the correct battery.
Should not GM be responsible for carrying these batteries. As it stands now I have 2 obsolete FOBs for a car with only 26,000 miles on it.
I would think that sooner or latter there is going to be a lot of us with dead key FOBs.
I noticed that some 2450N batteries (these DON'T Work) are labeled as just CR2450 or 2450. You have to look at the battery itself to see if it is a 2450N (no good).
If the battery says CR2450 or 2450 it is the one you want.
I have a 2000 vette and the FOBs are junk. There is a sodier that doesnt hold. Take off the cover and look at the rectangle shaped micro chip the bottom welds are most likely loose. After three fobs I discovered the problem. Fill the back cover area that covers the chip with paper towel or toilet paper so the chip will make contact when closed. Then hold down the door lock and unlock buttons for 7 to 10 seconds. if the horn beeps its not the battery.
I JUST REPLACED MY BATTERY A COUPLE DAYS AGO. I GOT THE BATTERY AT RADIO SHACK. IT HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED AND IT WORKS PERFECT.
RADIO SHACK DOES CARRY THE CORRECT BATTERY.
Radio shack had the battery for around 6 bucks and I went ahead and got three.... one for each FOB and a spare.... resynced the Fobs and now everything is just fine!
