I am the owners of a body shop in Miami. We have just bought a beautiful Corvette 2000 that got stolen and damaged by a few losers.
We have restored the car to its’ original condition however there two unsolved issues:
1. We manage to start the car, the engine sounds great and works on N without overheating. When we change the gear to D, the car start moving however if we exceed 2-3 MPH the engine turns off. Same thing happens with Reverse. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
2. We had bought a new bumper. On the front left side of the bumper (Driver side), there is a disconnected hose that sucks air when the engine is running, we are not sure where it goes to.
Does anyone has and idea on where this hose connects to?
The steering wheel is not locked however since this car got stolen just before I bought it, it is possible that the thiefs messed up with the system.
I just took the plastic under the steering wheel out and found a pair of wires, it seems like someone has disconnected those wires and connected it to a resistor. When I take the resistor out, the car doesn't start. When I connect it, there is a noise (Like some kind of a lock is being released) the car starts.
In addition to it, the security light is tunred on when the the engine is off and off when the engine is on.
I agree, the engine dieing when placed into gear and moved, definitely sounds like a failed column lock issue. Look at the sticky at the top of this tech section and do your research. I believe your problems will be solved with the purchase and installation of a column lock bypass kit ($50) from Thunder Racing or Houston Corvettes.
The other should be the air pump hose. From the pump, one end should connect to the air check valve on the drivers side of the engine. The other hose should connect to the air filter housing.

Do you know where those two wires go to?
Thanks again,

Someone bypassed the VATS with a resistor that's the same as your pellet in the key. A previous owner may have done this no avoid the "Wait 10 sec" BS or to avoid changing the ignition switch. .25 resistor is chaper than a many dollar key or switch.
