the closer you are to your power band the better. it's just a matter of still attaining driveability in the street. i don't believe yank makes a 3100. they make a 3000 and a 3500 and some other crazy wild ones. if you go with a yank you have str options. if you have nice sticky slicks go for a 2.2str 3500 yank. if you don't want to spend that much money and have traction problems go for a yank 3000 1.86 str. if you want to stay with a high stall go for the 3500 with the 1.6str. either way you will still smoke the tires. for some good advice i recommend you call mike at yank. he is very helpful. i lost his number but i'm sure someone here has it.

with your 3:73's you should really go for a 3500 1.6 with your BF DR's. i still can smoke my BF 315's with my 3000. with those gears you're going to FLY!

With the 3.73's you effectively reduce the stall of the converter. You could easily do a 3500 and maybe a ciustom 1.8 str instead of the 1.6. Either way an increase in stall will be noticeable. How much will be based on the amount of traction you can get. Also the 3500 is a great converter with nitrous. That 2400 is too low for the gear IMO.

Either way, it will work better for you. I have the Yank 3000 and with 3.15 gears, traction is bad. Better tires should help.

No one has answered his question, how much more of a gain in the 1/4 and is the cost worth it. That is what he wants to know! I also would like to know from you guys that are experts!

maybe 3 tenths...typical stalls reduce ETs by ~.5 and add about 3-5 MPH. so the 2400 probably reduced .2-.3 itself and added about 3 MPH...doubtful a 3000 will reduce it another .5 off of that given everything else remains the same. I would spend that money on a cam shaft install...pretty much same cost and you would have a better all around car. Go with a smallish cam shaft for ease of tuning or no tuming, create 25 more ponies and run a lot better from a roll because you are truly creating more power.

Hey Nilla, He already has Rippie heads so I am sure he has a cam in there aready. As far as the gains he should expect, IF he can get traction with some slicks or something, around 2-4/10ths in the 1/4. This is my opinion but I'm no expert

Also the 3500 will perform better from a roll than the 2400 due to the higher stall speed. I know with mine I can easily beat 6 speed cars from a roll which was impossible to do before.

Either way it will help. You don't have many other mods to consider you haven't already done. I personally would spend the money. The 3500 is the way to go. Traction will be an issue though.

I didn't even read what he had for mods... I still say 2 tenths...the Yank converters being discussed are not 1/4 killers by any stretch of the imagination. At least, as Raughammer on LS1.com says, "They just aren't runnin' the numbers" I'd find a different Yank to play with. The thruster pro(or whatever it's called) seems to be doing really well for some people.

Nilla, you're correct. The Yank's being discussed are not all out drag converter. The other Yanks such as the Super Thruster etc have 3.0 str's which unless using MT streets will totally blow the tires off the line especially with the power he's making. They will yield fabulous launches if you can ever get it to hook up. For an everyday car that get's to the strip every once in a while and retains driveability I say the 3500 with an str of no higher than 1.8 will give the best compromise. I sometimes forget converters are all about compromise.......

Regardless of which converter he chooses with the 3.73 gear he needs more stall. JMHO of course

Joe

One last note: The 3500 stall has excellent efficiency so his mph will surely increase as well.

You are a wise man, cruz!

As we all do...fastest street never means fastest drag and vice versa. It's the compromise that's the challenging part. It also makes this game called racing so much fun...

No argument here either...he will benefit...I just think he either needs to stay the way he is or pretty much go all out. JMHO, of course... :jester

Hey Ice

That was the first time ever drag racing (11/00). Jimman presented me with the video as a gift, I was totally unaware it was being taped. I told him I want a rematch, catch me now!

Yeah sure...they all say that! Just kidding...you were tree'd, but that car just reeled your opponents in pretty darned quick. I can't wait till my converter gets installed.
