I had heard that the 97-00 6spds had paper based blocker rings and some synthetics would damage (react/swell? dunno) the paper -
(01 and up were carbon fiber rings IIRC)
I thought there were some old threads on this but don't remember which fuilds were reported to cause a problem.
probably change differential also , what kind of fluid , and what capacity does it hold
sorry guys about stupid questions just dont have a owners manual and am new to the C5
You do have the option of having all the fluid changed using GM's new Dexron VI - all synthetic. (all the dealerships do this, but you must watch/check them to make sure it's not the old Dexron III).
sorry wasn't paying attention when I replied the first time around...
If you have an automatic dropping the pan and replacing the filter then filling the system back up won't do you a lot of good. It will only replace approx 4 qts of fluid when the entire system runs 12-14 quarts. Take the car to a good service shop (not always the easiest thing to find) and have them hook the vehicle up to an automatic transmission fluid flushing machine (T-tech is the one I am familiar with). I have operated these machines many times, they work flawlessly and replace all the fluid in the system. The only drawback is this service can be pretty expensive due to the cost of the machine and the amount of fluid needed, running prices will probably be between 149 and 200 - or considerably more if you specify that you want synthetic fluid.
