I am pulling the engine out of my car for a winter rebuild, but I don't have a lift. I was planning to take the motor out of the top using a hoist, as I've done with other cars.
My question - can I yank the rest of the drivetrain out... rear end, tranny and torque tube first, then move back around to the front and remove the engine? With no exhaust or drivetrain in the car, will the engine tilt back too far to damage anything?
Any other tips, tools or suggestions to accomplish this task? I want to take the rest of the drivetrain out to beef up the rear and get my diff/tranny brace installed.
It can be done and someone here has a write up on it. Pulling one with a lift looks tough enough, I don't think I'd want to try that type of surgery through the top.
I pulled mine from the top. I first raised the car up on jack stands with pucks. Took the hood off. Removed the drivetrain first and then the engine. Worked pretty good.
