Default Lifting pads

I just got a 98 vette and was told that you must have lifting pads on the frame of the car to lift it with a jack, if you don't have the pads you can't lift the car, is there any other way to lift it without the pads? Thanks

You dont have to have lifting pads to lift the car. they are a "nice" to have thing, but they are not needed. I lift mine at the track all the time without them.

Here is a good link to read:

Default lifting pads

Lift it at the recommended jacking points which includes the 4 oval shaped holes under the rocker panels. Make your own pads with hockey pucks and eyebolts for about $10. Many posts on this including mine. For an oil change get some Rhino ramps, get the grey ones rated at 12000 lbs. BIGHANK

To jack the car you do not need to use the lifting pads. The correct places to use a jack are at the front and rear cross members but you need a long low profile jack to get to the front crossmember or some boards to drive up on to get the car high enough.

The 4 frame points are for the use of a frame lift. However, a lot of us use them to jack the car. In the front frame location (near the front of the door) I have used a 6 inch long piece of 2 x 4 to protect the frame from the jack. You can lift the whole side of the car when jacking in this position. If you are jacking at the rear frame location (near the back of the door) you need something to prevent the lift device from resting on the rocker panel. There isn't a lot of room here and I never used the 2 x 4 in this area. The lift pads work well in this spot. You can also lift the whole side of the car when jacking at this point.

If you the car is being put on a frame lift the lifting pads are required for the rear lift points since there isn't enough room for the lift's pads to clear the rocker panel.

directly through BMW. I went to my BMW dealer and asked for the pads. He said ok, but they will not fit your BMW and I said they are for the Vette. He laughed saying that he found it funny something from BMW was less expensive than something Chevy...

We are lucky that a member of our Corvette club has access to a machine shop, so he made sets of aluminum jacking pucks for practically everyone in the club for the cost of materials.
I like the aluminum ones over the plastic or rubber (hockey pucks) ones because they do not distort under load or break.
Eventually, the MB plastics ones fail.
