My HUD convertible windshield has a nasty chip (passenger side) I'm reluctant to replace it for fear of leakage problems around the header. Does anyone know if the weather strip is part of the replacement? I had a coupe that was back 3 times after the window was replaced. Just had small leaks on sides and top, but a pia. Also I've called a few shops (I'm in the boonies) and they're recommending I not have it done by a mobile installer. I'd really like to do it in my garage (where I can help, and not have to move the car afterwards.) Any thoughts?
I had a mobil installer do mine at work. He cleaned up all the existing seal and laid down a new bead of sealant when installing the new window. Make sure you specify that you have HUD because there are two versions of the window, with and without HUD. It took probably about an hour to do.
Good luck,
john
I was wondering if I'd need new weatherstrip. I'll call the insurance. co before too long. Fortunately I've had zero deductable (comp.) on all my vehicles for years. I don't think they write it anymore! I know the HUD window is spendy.
Call corvette Bob at Fitchner Chevrolet.(google) He got me mine when no one else could/would. Everyone local to me wanted to sell me a coupe windshield. He also informed me that the top strip needs to be ordered seperatly. Verts and Z06's share the same windshield/gm part number. Our windshield are 6-7lbs lightier than a coupe's, even though they're all shaded for hud. Insist on the right replacement, Bob will provide the part number, I can't seem to find my invoice.
