I need some help and advice! My passenger side seat was moved forward while the interior was being detailed. I had one of those plastic protection tub over the mat and when the seat was advanced forward, the seat jammed against the tub. Now, the seat motor keeps making a clicking sound as if the seat was trying to move one way or another but nothing is moving and none of the other seat controls functions are working. I had to cut the mat in two just to remove it from the car. With the mat out from under the seat, the seat functions are still not working. I reached under the seat and found that the motor was extremely hot? The seat motor could be toast for all I know or one of the switches on the side of the seat might be shorted. I'd like to disconnect the seat motor and force the seat back but don't know how its done. Any tip on how to remove the seat to work on the motor or switches. I don't know how the seat comes out. Thanks Dan
Removing the seat is pretty straight forward. Pull the push pin out of the cover on the front seat rails and then pull the cover straight forward to remove it. Under the cover is a nut on a stud (each side) remove those and the the corresponding nuts on the back of each rail.
With the seat loose you can then disconnect the single, multiple connection electrical fitting under the seat and pull it out. Watch the paint.
I hope your seat is all the way forward, as it will be real hard to get to the back nuts if not. Be sure and put a towel or similar on the center console and the waterfall, if it's a 'vert, so you don't scratch them up getting it out. They are heavier than they look and a little awkward.
Also, removing the top or dropping the top, whatever the case may be, will help a lot in removal.
Well! Its working now! The seat was advanced all the way forward and when it did, it crushed the tub under the seat and forced the grounding clip off of the motor? After squeezing my fat head between the seat and glove box I found the problem. No need to remove the seat from the rails, Thank God! If that's a simple operation, removing the seat, I'd better have the dealership do the work under there in the future! I guess it would be simple operation if I had more room to work or did it once before ! I think I'll put a repair manual on my Xmas list! All appears to be back to normal. Thanks for your help.
