I am having trouble with my competition mode on my 2000 a4 convertible. I read the owners manual and think i'm doing everything right, but it never goes into competition mode. Has anyone else had this problem?
Are you guys sure you even have Active Handling?
JL4 is the glove box code, I think.
I dont think it came standard till 01.
Before 01, you have to be stopped and hold the button down for more than 5 sec.

What do you think you are doing right [correctly]?
If you don't have the JL4 code, you don't have active handling according to the Corvette Action Center site for 98 thru 2000 models, it became standard in 2001:
"Active Handling enhances the accident avoidance capabilities of the already nimble Corvette. It will be offered as an option (JL4) on all 1998-1/2 Corvette models. Additionally, it will be a required option on replicas of the '98 Corvette convertible Indy 500 Pace Car"
"The Active Handling System, RPO JL4, debuted on the 1998 Corvette and became standard equipment on the 2001 model."

So all you guys who cant get it to work, check and see if you even have it on your car. JL4 on the glove box sticker.
If you do have it, then you have to be stopped and hold the button down for more than 5 seconds.
Good luck.
If you have active handling, it says so right below the button
If not, I think it says traction control.
ding... ding... ding; we have a winner !!!
And like others mentioned, all 2001 and newer C5's came with active handling as standard equipment (which means all 2001 and newer also have the Competitive Driving mode).
for those with 1998 thru 2000 with the optional active handling ... you must be stopped in order to enter the mode. 2001 and newer can access the mode while in motion.
