Just picked up an 02 Millenium Yellow coupe last Thursday. :D Traded the Torch Red 98  was a wonderful automobile. My first Vette. The yellow is  & I am loving it. Dealer swapped all my mods from the old to the new free of charge  .
Noticed a scratch on the inside of the windshield :mad drivers side just below my eye level. Not to bad and if not looking for it. How can I buff this out? You can feel it with your fingernail. Was going to take it to a windshield service & get their opinion. Seems like it's in a awkward position for any tools other than your hands.
Never figured out how, but I got some scratches on the inside of my windshield directly in front of the driver. Completely unnoticable in some light, fairly obvious at other times. The glass service recommended against trying to buff them out since they were in such an important area, but after just one Chicago winter they said my windshield was sandblasted to the extent that the insurance company paid for replacement under my comprehensive section (no deductible). State Farm paid in full. I wouldn't worry about getting a new W/S, just be sure they cover the defroster opening, seats, etc to catch the glass fragments, check that all the rubber trim fits flush against the glass when finished, and wait the required time for the epoxy holding the new glass to dry.
Have the dealer replace it or you will be looking at it until you catch a rock and replace it anyway. For what it is worth, I did not have it replaced and I have seen it every day for 8 years. The problem is I have not caught a rock yet!
OMG! How wierd! I have a scratch on the inside of my windshield too. Its right in front of the HUD. I can also feel it with my fingernail. I was going to see if someone could fix it,but it hasn't been bothering me lately.LOL I actually forgot about it until I read this post.
Your not going to believe where these scratches come from sometimes. Rings with diamonds in them. Yes, I have often wondered why I would get some scratches on the front of the windshield near the wiperblades. Believe it or not, sometimes when you leave your car in a parking lot you'll see some adults going around and lifting up your wiper to put a flyer on it. Guess what, they normally use the left hand (approaching from the driver's side) to lift the blade and place the flyer under the blade with their right hand. Most people have their jewelry on the their left hand and all it takes is a quick touch to leave a scratch. And if they have jewelry on their right hand, same thing they can put scratches higher up the windshield as they insert the flyer under the wiper blade. I have also noticed that some of those who prep your car and/or detail the interior of the car (including wiping down the top of your dashboard) will sometimes still have jewelry on their hands. It doesn't take much to cause a scratch on the inside of the windshield. Just be sure to take off your jewelry when you detail the inside (or outside) of your car.
I once tried to have a scratch removed (it was in the line of vision). The guy I hired did a great job removing the scratch using a metal oxide paste and high speed buffer...however, he went a little too far and it caused distortion in the glass and I ended up having the windshield replaced. If you can live with it, live with it. Getting the windshield replaced means if will probably be an aftermarket one and who knows if it will leak, etc. Good luck.
Mine came with one too, but on the passenger side. A perfectly straight scratch that was there the day I took delivery of it. I wonder if it is from the factory or the dealer prep... :(
