Default New Problem and Need Ideas???

OK this is for a fellow forum member that posts only rarely. He has a 2001 MN6 Coupe. The car is completely stock.

I have driven the car and here are the symtoms:

While driving as soon as any steering imput is put into the car to the left you get a buzzing sound and a slight vibration. The buzzing gets louder and the vibration worse with speed. It does not get worse with more steering input. Secondly it only does this turning to the left not right. The sound and vibration seems to be coming from the left front of the car.

I have some ideas as to the cause but would like to hear your thoughts.

Front wheel bearings going out?
Does it sound like it's coming from the suspension or the dash? Does it sound mechanical?

It sounds like it is coming from the front of the car. Not the dash. It literaly feels and sounds like something is rubbing. That cannot be as the wheels turned only a few degrees.

Unfortunately it was raining last night so I was unable to inspect the car other than drive it. After the new year he is going to bring it back over and I will get it in the air and start looking around.

That is one of my ideas.

If it is a wheel bearing which one is likely to be the left or right. The sound seems to be more from the left. I know this is tricky and subjective. My opinion either way is to replace both front hubs.

It's tough to say without visual inspection which side has gone bad. I'm the type that if I replace one side, I'd have to do the other... but if money is an issue, you can diagnose the failed bearing.
Gain access to the hub and wipe off an area of grease around the bearings. Look for metal shards which would indicate the problem. If the other side is clean, just remove and repack the bearings.

They are a sealed unit so no repacking or disassembly is possible.

I agree. Apparently you must replace the entire hub assembly because of the darn ABS sensor. That is why its a sealed unit.
