I'm holding a new-in-the-box Standard brand oil pressure sending unit I ordered to replace my bad one. (You know the drill - I have 130 PSI on the DIC with the igniton on but the motor not running, analog gauge is pegged, etc.)
The new unit I am holding is aluminum; imprint says made in Mexico. I can do the labor myself.
Should I bother to put it in, or would I be better off doing nothing, given the failure rate I've heard about? Car works fine otherwise.
I replaced mine, not having oil pressure got on my nerves. I would replace it. Besides pulling the intake is a good team building exercise, get a friend or family member involved. My 16 year old is becoming an LS guru. Good luck.
Its an epidemic. Mine died about 2 months ago. I'll get around to changing it, but I'm in no rush. I know its better to always to have a reading, but total loss of oil is not common and I regularly inspect the car. GM should improve the durability and access to the device.....Hey GM, are you there?...
Ordered my replacement yesterday. Looks like I'll be changing it next weekend. What the heck, it may last forever, may not. Better than what you've got now. I just hate to see the gauge pegged out. Gets on my nerves.
CAREFUL. Just snug the thing down by hand with some sealant on the threads. Remember, it is made of aluminum, made in Mexico and made by GM. Adding a 4th item - like over torquing - will only fold the thing up like a bad taco.
I reinstalled my OEM unit since it is made of brass and threw the new aluminum POS in a drawer as a backup.
