my HVAC controls have 2 burned out bulbs-one is the "off" button and the other is the "rear defrost" button. what size bulb is this and is there any tricks i need to know before pulling the control head off?
I replaced mine with ones from radioshack.. I think they had 2 that were close.. use the lowest amperage ones (12 volt). They have to be soldered in. I tried to replace just one or two, but I ended up having to replace them all because the old ones burned out after I installed the new ones.. not sure what was up with that. There are L.E.D.s too, but I can't remember which ones they are.. I didn't have to replace any L.E.D.s

do you remember the part number from radio shack? or can i get them from the dealer? how hard were they to solder in?
you are right about the other ones going bad. i just had a 3rd one go out
I believe I went with the 272-1092. They seemed a little warmer to the touch and slightly brighter than the originals. I remember trying to decide between the 272-1092 and the 272-1141. I don't recall the plastic wrapping on the 272-1141 though. If I was to do it again, I would try the 272-1141.
As far as the soldering goes.. I'm fairly experienced at soldering, so it wasn't that big of a deal. If you take your time and be careful, you should do ok.
If you like, I can go to radioshack today and make sure I have the numbers right.
I went to radioshack today and looked at what they had. I went ahead and got the 272-1092 (60mA).. The others (25mA) looked bigger and the wires looked different (plastic coated, not sure they would stand up) and were more expensive. I got these for my radio, hope they fit.
