Default new blackwing question

i hear a bunch of people saying they got the vortex because of cold air, but cant you just cut the shroud as if you were getting a vortex and save the extra $30 or so????????

I have the blackwing filter installed myself and also got the tpis cold-air cover for it to make it a bottom-breather. Basically, if you want a cold air set up, hten you have to cut the shroud and have a box-type enclosure around the filter to harness that cooler air into the filter. I finished my install today and it was pretty easy if you have the blackwing already installed and are familiar with the disassembly of it. The instructions that come with the cold-air box for the blackwing are pretty easy to follow, except the holes they say to drill are too small for the plugs they send you. I ordered my cover from http://www.c5-corvette.com..its under product catalog section and in the intake section. Works great now that I finally finished the install. Good luck to you..If you have any questions about the install, just let me know..been there done that.

i have been trying to decide between the blackwing and the vortex. lately because of current events, i have been just playing the waiting game. i saw a blackwing two weeks ago and i was just thinking that if the shroud is cut, it would suck some of the cold air up. thanks for your reply

If you just cut the shroud, without the cover/box, you will have too much air coming in that way. To say nothing about all the sand and dirt!! You will also be taking a chance on running hot, because there will be less air to pass through the radiator.

thanks also, i didn't think about it taking much from the radiator. i guess it would also depend on how big of a hole i cut
