Guys due to a vibration at mid range rpms and a tranny I need to replace. I will be doing a lot of work on my vette soon, the vibration appears to be coming from the rear portion of the torque tube and its not the torque converter out of balance. Can I pull the internals out of the torque tube without unbolting the outer shell from the engine block? Any ideas what can be causing this vibration, the car has 130k miles, does the rear coupler tend to go bad, does the triangular plate that bolts to the converter get bent? I would like to take care of it all at once and get my smooth vette back.
Nahh u cant be serious the coupler is similar to a u joint they have to be able to sell it separate I sent gmparts direct an email I am sure they have all the components individually…will keep you posted.. hey any guides on disassembly of this torque tube

I know, crazy isn't it? Try this website for a giude....
I thought I remembered seeing that the prop shaft assembly (the internals) was available separately if you didn't need the whole torque tube assembly. I think I even remember seeing part numbers for them posted here. The prop shaft assembly is high speed balanced. I can only guess that GM doesn't want to offer components of this assembly separately since that would imply the capability to perform high speed balancing would also need to be available. Easier (for them) to just sell the balanced assembly.
Guys this is an overlay of a rubber coupler I found on one of the forums that fits the c5 and the rubber one I bought to replace mine from a bmw 318…appears to overlay fine stay posted to see if it works during the actual disassembly

Thanks,
I've seen LG has a composite version with much improved couplings - I am lusting after one myself. I'd check with Lou before doing anything else.
OK done with the vette, as i mentioned in other posts the issue with the tranny was slipping second and then no second and slipping 4th. This was due to the band worn out down to the rivets. The zpack for 3rd and 4th gear was still holding on awesome. Two thumbs up for the z pack. The guys @total car care rebuilt it 1000 12 year unlimited mile warrenty. They put kevlar band, new drum, the beast shell, shift kit, corvette sprag. Tranny came out great. The vibration was dur to bad couplers in the drive train. BMW COUPLERS DO WORK ON THE VETTES, I WAS THE GUINEA PIG AND YES THEY DO WORK. ASK FOR A 98 BMW 318 AUTO TRANNY TO GET THE COUPLER THAT WORKS WITH 10MM BOLTS ON 01 AND OLDER VETTES, FOR 01 ANS NEWER VETTES GET THE 98 BMW 318 MANUAL TRANSMISSION THIS HAS THE NEW 12MM HOLES FOR THE 12MM BOLTS. WILL FOLLOW UP WITH PART NUMBERS AND PICS. tHANKS FOR EVERYONES HELP STORIES AND PICS IT REALLY HELPED
what are all the different "kinds" of torque tube failure and results of that failure? It seems in many cases the couple becomes worn, or the shaft warps; both of which result in vibration. Are there other things that can go wrong or other results / symptoms one might experience? [just trying to educate myself!]
