Default Need quick help on Blackwing install for 2000....

I am right in the middle of my installation on my 2000 and the directions don't make sense.

I've removed the whole filter, MAF air bridge assembly. The directions say to "loosen the worm gear clamp at the air cleaner assembly to mass airflow sensor seal." Then remove the air cleaner assembly from the MAF sensor.

Then it says to assemble the blackwing (1997-2000) by installing the old seal and worm gear clamp onto the blackwing.

My problem is that my old assembly does not have a seal and worm gear that connects the air cleaner to the MAF. Instead of a worm gear it has a metal band that I can't remove unless I cut it. There also isn't a seal that is going to fit the blackwing.
It looks as though the blackwing seal might just attach directly to the MAF sensor, but if it doesn't and I cut the band, I'm SOL.

Can anyone give me any guidance?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dick A.

I just checked my 2000 filter/MAF assembly, which is sitting on a shelf in the garage, and it's different from the '01 Z06 - the Z has a regular screw type clamp, as opposed to the band on the 2000. Sounds like you may have a filter for an '01 - it's a different size as well - 4" opening vs. 3-1/2 for the '00.

Steve,

Sounds like your 2000 has a permanent band instead of a worm gear also.

I guess I'll put the factory set up back on until I know what I have.

Thanks for your help. Dick

I went to the garage and checked out my Blackwing. The unit came with a screw type band and rubber seal to connect it to the MAF. I agree with Steve, it sounds like you have a filter for a 2001. Call the supplier.
